Looking for New Cookbooks? Tired of Healthy?

When I was shopping for books on pickling and canning (see my first efforts here), I also found some other books stacked between Baby’s First Food and Crunchy Living:

This isn’t what they mean by “crunchy”, I think.

And just in case you didn’t get enough bacon (although, really, is there any such thing as too much bacon? I think not!), here is how to get the true home-cooked flavor into your fried chicken, apple pie crusts, light biscuits, and Mexican border foods:

The poison is in the dose.

I don’t really do a lot of cooking, now that I’m an empty nester, so I save my feast days for when friends or family are visiting. Alas, I passed up both of these awesome books. However, I could not resist this one, written by a Texan now living up in New York. A great number of the recipes are Mexican or Tex-Mex. Which of course ranks up there next to barbecue, cantaloupe, Gulf seafood, and chicken-fried steak as our national foods here in the Lone Star State.

(Also, she has a blog)

THIS one is healthy. It is HEART healthy.

  1. Once I saw the cover f the first book I nearly didn’t get down the page. I must have stared for twenty minutes drooling ( at my age I do that anyway). I’ll keep an eye open for that one.
