Pittsburgh Lamps, put this on your yard sale list!

My good friend William Price, Jr. is once again generously sharing some of his special treasures with us.  One of my favorite blogs posted has been this one about his unique law office.

William asked if I had heard about “Pittsburgh Lamps”.  A quick google check showed me I had seen this type of lamp.  My grandmother that lived in Shamokin, PA had one by her bedside.  It had trees, leaves and deer.  As a child I was fascinated by it.  As an adult, I had never seen another lamp like it.  I’m so glad William shared his lamps, and now I know what to keep me eye out for at garage sales.

Pittsburgh Lamps by William Price

Over the years I have begun to develop an appreciation for lamps that were locally made here in Pittsburgh 100 years ago. Today antique dealers across America refer to these reverse painted lamps as “Pittsburgh Lamps.” Pictured are two I have acquired through local yard sales.

I love not only the scene on this lamp, but the lamp base.

A more ornate base, but fitting with the beautiful reverse painting.
