Time to close the Cabin!

It’s a sad time of year, where Fall is finished and the nights are getting much colder.  That means time to close up the lake cabin for winter.  Pipes will freeze, so we put pink eco anti freeze in the pipes and bring in the kayaks.

Summer, and the rock on the island is the one everyone jumps off.  It is safe in the summer.  However, I have mentioned that Franklin Pierce Lake is only a lake in the summer.  During the winter the water is drained until it is a stream.  This makes it nice for people with docks, as the ice doesn’t hurt the dock.  However, the swim raft has to come in.

You can see how much lower the water is already from the first photograph, not safe to jump off the rock anymore!

The water line is clearly visible on the shore.  It will drop enough that people can cross country ski and snow mobile in what was the lake bottom.

Only when the water has dropped enough can you see why this is called “Whale Head Rock”

    • we still are going to eke out a few more weeks… fingers crossed….but then the flag goes in. Our neighbor lives there year round, so e takes over for the winter by keeping an eye on things.
